Philippe Prost

Architect Philippe Prost places historical research and the dialogue between different eras at the heart of his practice. At projects such as the Cité des Électriciens in Bruay-la-Buissière, the Paris Mint, and the Briqueterie in Vitry-sur-Seine, heritage is not only preserved but reinterpreted and brought into the present, with existing structures serving as the raw material for fundamentally contemporary interventions. For the Ring of Memory in Ablain-Saint-Nazaire, it is a less tangible form of heritage—the memory of the First World War—that is given physical form, ensuring it is never forgotten. Working across a range of scales, from territorial planning to exhibition design, and through various fields including architectural practice, teaching, and research, Prost sees his role not so much as that of a builder, but as someone who seeks to “transform reality and change lives.”

Partners

Over the years, Philippe Prost has brought together a team of around thirty people who share his passion and commitment to excellence. The studio’s work is distinguished by its respect for the site, its geography and history; by a thorough analysis of the questions raised by each brief; by the choice of durable construction methods and materials; and by a strong presence throughout the construction process. Across all projects, regardless of scale, memory and context serve as the foundations of design. After making Catherine Seyler - who has worked alongside him since the agency’s creation - a partner, Philippe Prost prepared for the future by appointing Gaël Lesterlin and Lucas Monsaingeon as partners in January 2019.

Self-Taught
Member of the Academy of Architecture

Her career path is anything but conventional. After studying biology, she joined the French Institute of Architecture in 1982 before moving on to the Regional Council of the Order of Architects. Her deep interest in and curiosity about architecture have been instrumental in shaping her professional development and remain among her greatest strengths.

Working alongside researchers and practitioners—who consistently encouraged her to expand her knowledge—has enabled her to grow within the field while maintaining a continually renewed passion for the discipline. Since the founding of the studio, she has worked closely with Philippe Prost on its projects and has brought together a diverse range of talents that contribute to the richness of the practice.

Driven by a strong sense of commitment, she promotes increasingly responsible ways of working, fostering collaborations with craftspeople and artists. Since 1994, she has coordinated the Academy of Architecture’s Architecture Book Prize and serves as a jury member for the Youth Architecture Book Prize.

Project Director, Partner
Architect DPLG – ENSA Paris-Belleville
DEA in History of Architecture – Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne

A graduate of ENSA Paris-Belleville, with a focus on interventions within existing built environments, and holding a DEA in History of Architecture from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne focused on the 18th century, he joined the studio in 2003 and became a partner in 2019.

From an early stage, he has overseen a wide range of projects across different typologies and scales, including the restoration of the Château d’Autry-le-Châtel, the conversion of a thermal power plant into a cultural centre, as well as both new-build and refurbishment housing developments, and the Métalmorphoses project at the Monnaie de Paris.

More recently, he delivered the Hôtel Richer de Belleval in Montpellier, which combines a restaurant, hotel, and art foundation, as well as the Collège Henri IV in Poitiers. He is currently leading several projects under construction in Rennes at the Hôtel d’Artillerie, in design phase in Paris for the Institut océanographique, and in Boulogne-Billancourt for the restoration of the Château Rothschild.
