Musée 11 Conti, Monnaie de Paris

The project presents the Hôtel de la Monnaie’s collections and treasures of the to a broad audience. They travel across centuries and continents on a visit where industrial production and the way you move through the site come together. Artisanal skills and spaces can be appreciated at close hand. In these workshops, workers and craftspeople practise the art of transforming metal through many stages: casting, cutting, engraving, chasing, enamelling, and gilding. The production workshops and display spaces for the collections were both designed as a series of face-to-face encounters. Both are interspersed with a succession of sensory experiences: the sight of glittering ores in near darkness, the sound of coins being struck, and the feel of the craft workers' furniture.
